3 sent to jail in DU student Shammo murder

A Dhaka court has ordered to send three accused in the murder case of Dhaka University (DU) student Shahriar Alam Shammo to jail.
The accused are Md Tamim Hawladar, 30, Palash Sardar, 30, from Sadar upazila, and Samrat Mallick, 28, from Dasar upazila of Madaripur.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed passed the order on Wednesday, May 14, after the police produced them before the court, seeking remand against them.
According to the statement of the case filed with Shahbagh police station, Shahriar Alam Shammo, a leader of the university unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and 2018–19 session student at the Institute of Education and Research, was returning to the university on a motorcycle around 11:45pm on Tuesday, along with his university friends Ashraful Alam Rafi (25) and Md Abdullah Al Baizid (25), after visiting Suhrawardy Udyan.
As they approached the old fountain near the banyan tree north of the Ramna Kali Mandir, a group of 10 to 12 unidentified assailants deliberately hit Shammo’s motorcycle, causing him to fall.
A verbal altercation ensued between the two groups. At one point, the attackers began physically assaulting Shammo and his friends with punches, kicks, and bricks. One of the assailants then stabbed Shahriar multiple times in the back of his right thigh with a sharp weapon, intending to kill him.
