Not Biman, Khaleda to return on Qatari royal air ambulance

After four months of medical treatment in London, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is set to return to Dhaka on Monday, May 5, aboard a special air ambulance provided by the Emir of Qatar, rather than a Bangladesh Biman flight as initially planned.
Initially she was scheduled to return on a Biman flight via Sylhet but now she will return straight to Dhaka.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is mobilising with fervour to welcome their leader.
On Saturday, May 3, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir led a joint meeting with Dhaka Metropolitan BNP and affiliate organisations to finalise preparations.
“Leaders and activists will line the route from the airport to her Gulshan residence, ‘Firoza,’ holding party flags and flowers to greet our leader,” Fakhrul announced post-meeting.
Party sources confirmed that Dhaka Metropolitan North and South BNP will spearhead the reception, with active participation from Juba Dal, Chhatra Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, Mahila Dal, and other affiliates. A senior BNP leader emphasized the emotional weight of the event: “Her return after four months of treatment abroad is not just political—it’s deeply personal for us.”
Khaleda Zia’s homecoming follows her release from corruption charges in 2024, marking a pivotal moment for the BNP and its supporters as they rally to honor their leader’s resilience.
